Setting up your DNS records step by step
Exact instructions for the DNS records needed, with examples for common registrars.
·
The record you need to create
You need one CNAME record that points your domain at Local Directory AI's servers. The exact value is shown in Settings → Domain after you enter your domain name.
For a root domain (yourdirectory.com)
Some registrars don't support CNAME records on the root (also called an "apex" or "naked" domain). Options:
- CNAME flattening — Cloudflare and some others flatten root CNAMEs automatically. Use
@as the host. - ALIAS or ANAME record — supported by Route 53, DNSimple, and others. Behaves like a CNAME at the root.
- Redirect www to root — create the CNAME on
wwwand redirect the root towww. Most registrars support URL redirects.
For a subdomain (directory.yoursite.com)
Create a standard CNAME record with the subdomain as the host (e.g. directory) and the value shown in your dashboard.
Testing your DNS
Use a tool like dnschecker.org or run dig yourcomain.com CNAME in a terminal to verify the record is resolving correctly before clicking Verify in your dashboard.
