Schema markup and rich results for local businesses

How Local Directory AI adds structured data to your listings to improve search result appearance.

What is schema markup?

Schema markup (JSON-LD) is structured data embedded in a page's HTML that helps search engines understand the content. For local businesses, it can unlock rich results in Google — things like star ratings, opening hours, and map pins appearing directly in search results.

What Local Directory AI adds automatically

Every published listing page includes LocalBusiness schema with:

  • Business name, address, and phone number
  • Website URL and geographic coordinates
  • Business category mapped to a Schema.org type
  • Opening hours (if provided)

Your directory homepage and category pages include WebSite and ItemList schema for the listing collections.

Testing your schema

Use Google's Rich Results Test to check any listing URL. Paste the URL and click Test to see what structured data Google detects and whether there are any errors.

Improving schema quality

The richer your listing data, the richer the schema. To improve schema quality, ensure every listing has:

  • A full street address and geocoded location
  • A phone number and website URL
  • A category that maps to a recognised Schema.org business type
